kansas home equity loan,Merry (Early) Christmas to All!

Especially to DeLurker Louise, according to my random number generation!!! Once I get your snail-mail address, it'll go out Thursday when I'm back in DC! Congratulations, Louise, and thanks to all for entering my giveaway. It's not the bestest gift around, but since I got it free, it's best to pay it forward....

Both Beth and Suzy showed recent posts of some of their favorite vintage holiday ornaments (Beth calls them "Bored Housewife Ornaments", but I know for sure 'round these parts they're known as "that-ought-to-keep-the-kids-quiet-for-a-few-hours ornaments"). Uncannily, both these types of ornaments are the sort my mom had Snis and I make back in the late '60s/early '70s. It couldn't have been much later than that, as I can hardly imagine agreeing to do these when I was a surly teenager, unless it meant I could have the keys to the 1972 Impala for the evening.

Don't believe me? Look what mom coincidentally just happened to be photographing for a scrapbook:

Don't kid yourself that we were creative; they are from kits.

As you know, today was our family's Early Faux Christmas. Dad went golfing, I was reading, OG Mom and Snis were crafting. Presents had to wait until Dad got home. Unfortunately, apparently TODAY is the day their homeowners' association scheduled my parents' home to be completely spray-painted on the outside, so we had ONE HOUR to remove all the furniture, plants, valances, and mini-blinds from the lanai (and find space for it in the home). It would've taken a lot longer had Dad been home, if your dad is as un-handy as mine is. They have now finished taping shut every door and window to our home, effectively trapping us inside. Oh, sure, we can go out through the big ole electric garage-door, but it's eerie inside. What a strange faux Christmas!

Dinner will be in about 2 hours, so pardon grumblings you hear in anticipation of turkey, stuffing, smashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and PIE.

We'd all agreed to go "light" this holiday season, as I'm guessing everyone (but AIG executives) are, which seemed to give the added bonus of more thoughtful and targeted gifts. If you haven't started your holiday shopping yet, I highly recommend it. We truly bought what each other wanted! A few were thrifted, and one of mine was from my mom's stash!

Here's most of my haul (except a much-coveted subscription to Artful Blogging). At left is a close-up of some less-obvious things: a 1913 dogwalker's diary, a cameo, the Limoges-style cowboy boot (yee ha), and you can't see them, but the buttons in the box. The purple one says Queen with a picture of a Bee. I'm totally swapping it with mom's, whose says Pack with a picture of a Rat.

My family knows me pretty well, huh?
